Mining doesn't damage the hardware!

🧐 What does the graphics card's temperature depend on?

The temperature depends on the efficiency of the cooling system and the heat dissipation of the chip. The more powerful the card, the more heat it generates.

For Nvidia RTX 2060 and RTX 3060 Ti cards, the temperature limit is 93 degrees. From for this, you need to compare 2 different GPU not only by the type of cooling, but also by the power supply of the chip.

Often, people forget about the power subsystem and the memory chip. They need stable air flow at 50% of the fan power so that the stability of the work is not disturbed.

😥 What temperature should I be afraid of?

Critical — temperature that must not be exceeded, otherwise breakdowns may happend. Each video card has its own limitations.

For some, at high temperatures, the memory chip fails. For others, the graphics chip fails or the capacitors overheat.

For all cards from Nvidia, the allowable temperature is 93 degrees. For AMD, the optimal temperature is considered 90-100 degrees.

Ideally, it is desirable to have 5-10 degrees in reserve. For the video card to work normally and not overheat.

🛠️ What kills the graphics card?

Frequent temperature fluctuations can be fatal to your card.

This is only true for gaming or occasional mining. If you are mining 24/7, there is no point in chasing low temperatures. Because The GPU works flawlessly. The map will become obsolete many times faster than it will die!

In addition to the GPU, the graphics card has a power subsystem and memory chips.

Memory generates a lot of heat. She does not have enough minimum airflow so that she does not overheat. Always keep an eye on the temperature of the memory chips. It is advisable not to warm them up more than 100 degrees.

If the memory chips get very hot, this is a sign that it's time to change the thermal pads and increase the fan speed.

Micron claims that their GDDR6X memory can operate above 100 degrees.

🤔 What about the power subsystem?

It is very simple! Follow our instructions to stay out of trouble.

  • Do not heat Mosfets (semiconductors, transistors) up to 100 degrees. If the mosfets overheat — you need to install a radiator or make additional cooling with fans. You can check Mosfets temperature via GPU-Z.
  • The power system is always made with a small margin.
  • Lower the Power Limit on the video card. This will reduce the consumption of the video card. As a result, it will last longer!

For memory from other manufacturers, the values should be approximately the same. To avoid problems with memory chips, do not let the fans turn off.

💻 And what about laptops?

Mostly laptops suffer from this problem as their cooling system is much worse compared to their big brothers' ones. Full load during Kryptex benchmarks on portable devices may result with a turn offs as the internal protection of the laptop is triggered by a high temp.

Kryptex does not recommend mining or overclocking laptops, even if it is a new gaming laptop. Rough handling or frequent temperature fluctuations can damage sensitive laptop components.

If you are still going to mine on a laptop, check out our recommendations:

  • Disable mining on the processor. The cooling system of a laptop, even a gaming one, covers two of the hottest components at once: the processor and the graphics card. Thus, when mining simultaneously on the processor and the graphics card, the temperature will be 15-20 degrees higher than if you mine only on the GPU.
  • DO NOT overclock laptops. Overclocking laptops is unsafe, as their cooling system is designed for the factory load. Overclocking your computer will not give you a significant advantage but will increase the likelihood of a breakdown.
  • DO NOT modify the BIOS. Some craftsmen suggest changing the laptop BIOS, increasing the power of the components. Yes, the graphics card can become more powerful by as much as 10-15 watts, but at what cost? If the developers set the cooling system to 70 watts TDP, and you increase this figure, the cooling system will not cope. Also, changing the BIOS will void your warranty.
  • Cool down your laptop. Increase the fan speed, buy a cooling pad, or raise the computer 5-10 centimeters above the surface to make it easier for the fans to push the air.
  • Maintain your laptop regularly. Fans in laptops are small, run at high speeds, the blades are very close, and the heatsinks are thin... All this turns your computer into a vacuum cleaner! Once every six months, disassemble your laptop and clean it from dust. Change the thermal grease once a year. Can't you do it yourself? Ask friends who understand. Are you still afraid? Please take it to a service center.
