ASIC only is capable of mining and only mines one algorithm, i.e. it is limited to a small set of coins or to a single coin alone. For example, ASIC for Bitcoin cannot mine Monero. And vice versa. GPU’s have diversity on their side, but ASICs win in terms of efficiency. For example, one Innosilicon A10 7 GB mines as much as 7 RTX 3080 video cards, but consumes the same amount of electricity as only 5 of them.

The GPU’s are warm and noisy, but the ASICs are even noisier. 10-20 video cards on a balcony is an acceptable and still comfortable level of noise. 1-2 ASICs is comparable to a vacuum cleaner, meaning all your neighbours won't be able to sleep.

ASICs may be more profitable and efficient, but video cards are easier to start with and safer to continue.

The short answer is: hash rate and power consumption are the same everywhere, there is no advantage anywhere; whichever is more convenient for you, go with it.

There are two big pluses on Windows' side:

• It's already installed on your gaming computer;
• You already know how to use it and you probably know how to reinstall it.

HiveOS and RaveOS are operating systems specifically for miners, all you can do is mine and nothing more. It is definitely not a choice for a home computer, but a great solution for a balcony farm.

The main advantage is that it has Linux inside. In other words, we get a more stable and predictable operating system with less video memory consumption. Windows has its own enormous appetites, so 4 GB video cards can no longer mine Ravencoin there, but under Linux these cards will mine for a few more months.

Our opinion is that for 1-3 home rigs the best way is not to experiment and stay with familiar Windows, 4-10 — as you feel more convenient, and further one should definitely look in the direction of specialized solutions like HiveOS and RaveOS.

A new beta version of Kryptex 4.25.6 has been released, featuring support for KASPA and ERGO+KASPA dual mining for Nvidia and AMD graphics cards.

This update fixes the crashing and freezing problems that were occurring on newer AMD cards. Keep in mind that since this is still a beta version, there may still be some issues when dual mining ERGO+KASPA on AMD RX 400/500 cards. However, using KASPA without dual mining should work smoothly.

The main difference is how you want to receive your payouts:

• In crypto which you mine — Kryptex Pool.
• In bitcoins, dollars, euros, hryvnias, tenges — Kryptex app.

The Kryptex app will determine which coin you want to mine on your computer, configure and run it all by itself. Dual mining isn't a problem at all! You don't need to set anything up, the application will take care of everything automatically. You only have to choose the method and currency of payment on the website.

On the pool you have to do everything yourself: set up the mining, register a wallet, choose which coin is the most profitable to mine, find a place to exchnage your crypto. But most importantly, you need to store and exchange all the obtained cryptocurrency yourself. For example, if you mine Ravencoin, you can only get payment in Ravencoin.

Fast video memory is expensive and in short supply. That's why you can't put much of it in ASICs. To make ASIC development unprofitable, most coins have a DAG file that grows over time. It means that miners won't buy a device that will be obsolete in a year, and it is too hard and expensive for the manufacturers to put double memory. So the coin ends up safe and only in the hands of video card miners.

Now Ravencoin needs almost 3.8 GB of free video memory, which means it can't be mined on 4 GB cards under Windows, but it can be mined under Linux, such as HiveOS and RaveOS. In summertime RVN will reach 4 GB, and it will be necessary to either switch to another coin, or to upgrade your video cards ;)

Ethereum will soon switch to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm.  Ethereum ETH mining will be switched off.

• Update your Kryptex client to 4.23.0 to be ready.

What's new?

• This version automatically switches on all available coins and algorithms.
• From now Trex-miner can mine Ethereum Classic ETC and unlock the LHR for it.

What will happen if I won't update?

• During the merge to Proof-of-Stake, Ethereum ETH mining will be switched off. If other coins or algorithms are disabled, Kryptex won't be able to start mine, and your mining rig will stay idle until you do not manually switch the algorithm.

What if I don't want to update?

• If you don't want to update — switch on other algorithms, so Kryptex would be able to switch automatically after Ethereum ETH switching off.

What if I don't mine Ethereum ETH?

• If you are not mining Ethereum ETH — you may do nothing.
  Or you can update your Kryptex app to get maximum profitability from Ethereum Classic ETC.

What if I use Hive/Rave/Pool for mining?

• You will have to switch your mining rigs manually to a different algorithm. We recommend you do that beforehand, for example on the 14th of September.

What is a transition to PoS?

• Transition to PoS (Proof-of-Stake) is a change of the algorithm, which will result in stopping ETH mining how we know it. Your coins will not disappear but you will not be able to mine them.

So, mining is over?

• No! ETH — is just one coin that will not be eligible for mining. Kryptex will automatically switch to the different coins: ETC, RVN, ERGO, etc. and will continue mining!

How it will influence my profit?

• Most probably, profitability will lower for some weeks. After, it will start growing up as we will be able to mine other coins after ETH transition to PoS.

How should I prepare?

• There is nothing you should do. Despite algorithm changing all the blockchain will remain untouched after the PoS transition. All coins that are stored in your wallet will stay available.
  Do not transfer your ETH “to update into ETH2” — it’s the way scammers will try to steel your money.

❓ What happened?
Ravencoin DAG file sits at 2.5 Gb. GPUs with 3Gb VRAM will not have enough free memory for DAG file storage.
Some time ago the same had happened to Ravencoin and 4Gb GPUs.

🧐 Why? There should be 500 Mb left?! Windows and background apps may consume from 100 up to 500 Mb of VRAM.

🤔 What should I do now? How could I continue mining?

• Rerun the benchmark and your GPU will start mining UBQ;
• Install Windows 7 - 8.1 where GPU drivers consumes less video memory;
• Connect directly to our ERGO pools using HiveOS\RaveOS. These operating systems consume less video memory.

💥What happened?
Ravencoin DAG file sits 3.5 Gb. GPUs with 4Gb VRAM have no enough free memory for DAG file storage.
Older miners may remember that similar happened with Ethereum.

⁉Why? There should be 500 Mb left?!
Windows and background app may consume from 100 up to 500 Mb of VRAM.

🤔What should I do now? How could I continue mining?
Kryptex took care of everything! We already add alternative coins ETC and ERGO.
If you have chosen KawPow manually - switch to alternative coins.

❓What happened?
LOLminer broke down and stopped working on the new ERGO era.

🛠How did Kryptex solve the problem?
We have updated the miners for the ERGO coin so that you can continue mining ERGO. Now you can mine ERGO with T-rex miner and TeamRedMiner.

Update Kryptex to the latest version 4.20.12 and run the benchmark to resume mining ERGO coin.

Yes, right there in big letters. We know how much you wanted lower bitcoin withdrawal fees. And now it's happening!

Withdraw bitcoins from Kryptex for only 0.00005 BTC (~$3.15)

We noticed a drop in hash rate to 2-6 MH/s on GTX 1000 series graphics cards.

If you experience hash rate drop, we recommend to rollback to 472.12-472.39. We hope this is a one-time bug and not a new Nvidia policy.

During the New Year holidays, the Ethereum pool was malfunctioning: connections were being dropped, and solutions were mistakenly rejected. We paid the compensation to everyone who was mining with us that time.

In January and February, Ethereum market price was about $700 - $1,500. We compensated the downtime at the current Ethereum rate of $3000 for 1 ETH. This means that you received 3-4 times more money than you lost at that time.

Added a new coin to Kryptex — Ethereum Classic.

New algorithm improves profitability of the GPUs that are no longer able to mine Ethereum or Ravencoin. Those mostly are 3-4GB GPUs.

Take a look at the daily profitability on a GeForce GTX 1060 3GB example:

• EXP — $0.72 (+10%)
• ETC — $1.26 (+93%)

Added RX 590 and LHR versions of NVIDIA videocards: 3060, 3060 ti, 3070 and 3080. Surprisingly, because of the lower price, the payback period remained at the same level as of full-fledged cards without anti-mining protection.

Provided the maximum temperatures for each video card in the table. Check how many degrees you still have until danger zone!

Ethereum miner's reward is:

• 2 ETH fixed block reward.
• All fees included in the block. Now it's on average 0.3 ETH fees per block, for the last half year it was sometimes more than 10 ETH. A year or two ago, it was less than 0.1 ETH.

The rise in popularity of Ethereum and DeFi projects resulted in a rise in fees. It's definetely good for miners — we earn 5-10 times more. It's bad for ETH users — they have to pay huge fees from $10 to $600 to transfer money.

The EIP 1559 update is changing the way fees are formed. Transactions will become cheaper and extra fees will be burned. For miners this means a drop in profitability in between of 2% and 70%.

Should miners be discouraged? No. Low fees will only increase the popularity of Ethereum, while burning fees will reduce the amount of coins in circulation and lead to deflation. All together this will raise the Etherium exchange rate to the moon. In an ideal world, miner's income in dollars would not desrease, but, on the contrary, increase.

A miner can simply mine cryptocurrency on GPU and CPU or he can use additional tricks to increase his profits even more without increasing hashrate. We show by example how in one year you can turn $1100 into $11000.

Kryptex has tested Radeon R9 Nano, a powerful graphics card from AMD, released in 2015. The card has 4GB of HBM video memory and a powerful GPU, which is great for Ravencoin mining.

Mining went unstable due to a bug in Phoenix miner, which caused it to generate thousand of incorrect shares a second. This caused a DoS "attack" by our own miners.

Currently we have deployed a new version of Ethereum pool code which mitigates this issue and is very stable so far.

If you still experience troubles with the connection, try redoing the benchmarks, to force Kryptex get new settings for the pool. If this doesn't help, describe the symptoms in the PMs or here in the chat, and tell us your IP address from here.

💱 Solutions → Bitcoins exchange

Solutions (shares) exchange is currently require our manual actions, to ensure that everyone gets the correct amount of bitcoins and no money is lost.

We exchange them in big bulks, so for some people the solutions might still look "frozen", but for others they are converting to bitcoin.

The pause won't affect your rewards, even the opposite → we are exchanging them when ETH price went at least +30% more, than when you have mined them in the first place. The end result will be a net positive for you.

🙌🏻 Compensations for the downtime

We take full responsibility for the incident and will compensate ALL the losses caused by the downtime:

• All the time, while miners where unstable and crashed will be rewarded.
• We have enough telemetry to calculate and reimburse all the damage even without sent shares. We will basically pay you for the Kryptex-app uptime.
• All shares (valid/rejected/all) will be rewarded.

You will see it on the "Earnings history" graph — all the blanks and drops will be filled with the earnings, as if there was no problems at all.

⏳ ETA for the final fix

The pool issue is pretty much have been solved, so the app should work well.

The automatic exchange for the solutions (shares) will be resumed in 3-4 days. In the meantime, we are exchanging them in bulk by hands.

The compensations will be later, since we need to make the calculations and write a perfect code to commit the rewards, so that everyone is reimbursed and satisfied. We hope to finish it in a week or sooner, but we'll see how it goes.

On November 30, Monero will upgrade its CryptoNightR algorithm to RandomX. Update Kryptex in advance to avoid any difficulties.

We have introduced a new system to track referral frauds — users dishonestly inviting themselves as a referral. A week later — after August 10th — we will start issuing bans on fraudulent accounts, leaving no chance of restoring them.
